Women Special Entry Scheme (Officers)

Basic Information regarding Exam
Applications are invited from unmarried female or issueless widow/divorcee candidates for the courses beginning in the months of March and September for grant of Commission in the Army in:

(a) Non-Technical Vacancies:
(i) Army Ordnance Corps (AOC)
(ii) Army Service Corps (ASC)
(iii) Corps of Engineers (ENGRS)
(iv) Corps of Electrical & Mechanical Engineering (EME)
(v) Signal (SIGS)
(b) Technical Vacancies:
(i) Corps of Engineers (ENGRS)
(ii) Signals (SIGS)
(iii) Corps of Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (EME)
(c) Specialist Entry:
(i) Army Service Corps (ASC)
(ii) Army Education Corps (AEC)
(iii) Intelligence Corps (INT)

Age limit
(i)The candidate on the first day of the month of the commencement of the course must not be below 19 years of age or over 25 years of age except for candidates with Post-Graduate Degree in English/Maths/Physics/History/Bio. Chemistry/Computer Application/Micro-biology/Organic Chemistry who should be between 21 to 27 years and will be considered for AEC only.

Minimum Educational Qualification
(i} Non-Technical Entry: EA, E.Com, ECA, ESc (PCM) or equivalent or higher qualification with minimum aggregate of 60% and above marks. The cut off percentage of minimum aggregate marks for candidates possessing NCC ‘C’ Certificate with ‘E’ or higher grade is 50%. Higher Qualifications may be termed as higher degrees like MA, MSc, MCom, MCA etc, which are higher than the prescribed qualifiction.

(ii} Technical Entry: E.E., E. Tech. or equivalent or higher qualification in Civil Engg, Electrical Engg, Mechanical Engg, Electronics Engg, Computer Science, Tele-communications Engg and Architecture.

(iii} Specialist Entry: The candidates possessing the following educational qualifications must have minimum aggregate of 50% marks:-

(aa) PG Degree in Bio-Chemistry/Micro-Biology/Organic Chemistry,
(ab) PG Diploma in Hotel Management/Catering Technology from recognised University/Institute,
(ac) PG Diploma in Mass Communication/journalism/Public Relation from a recognised University Institute.
(ad) PG Degree in Physics/Maths/Computer Application/ English/History,
(ae) Graduate with minimum one year Diploma in Computer Science/Personal Management/Material Management from a recognised University/ Institute.

Details Regarding Selection Procedure

Physical Standards
(a) Height and Weight: The minimum acceptable height and weight for a woman candidate is 142 cm and 36 Kgs respectively.

(b) Visual
Standards: The minimum acceptable Visuai acuity are: Distant Vision (corrected) better eye 6/6, worse eye 6/18. Myopia of not more than minus 5.5 D including astigmatism. To be passed fit, a candidate must be in good physical and mental health and free from any disability likely to interfere with the efficient performance of duty .

How to Apply
Apply on plain paper as per the format given in the advertisement published in leading Newspapers/Employment News usually in the months of Junel July and December.

Other Information
Initial shortlisting of applications will be done at Additional Directorate General Recruiting.Army HQ. Shortlisted candidates will be tested at the Service Selection Board (SSB) by Psychologist, Group Testing Officer and Interviewing Officer.

Medical Examination:
After SSB Interview the selected candidates will have to appear for Medical examination before a Special Medical Board (SMB). Candidates declared unfit/temporary unfit will be inforn1ed by the President of the Medical Board regarding the procedure for requesting remedica1/appeal Medical Board. Candidates are advised in their own interest to appear for remedical or appeal Medical Board well in time and should not wait for the last date given by the Special Medical Board. Candidates will only be considered medically fit on receipt of the approval of the Medical Board Proceedings by Director General Medical Services in Addl Dte Gen Rtg. Candidates will be issued joining Instructions based on the merit list and subject to availability of vacancies. Pregnancy if detected at any stage after selection at SSB or during training will debar the candidates including issueless widow/divorcee from grant of Commission.

Training Terms and Conditions of Service:

Training:
Approximately six months training at OTA, Chennai. On successful completion of the training the candidates will be granted Commission in the rank of Lieutenant. The final allocation of Arms/Services will be made prior to passing out of Lady Cadets from OTA.

Ante Date Seniority: Two years of ante date seniority will also be applicable for women officers having recognised Engineering Degrees and getting commissioned into ENGRS, Signals and EME.

Suitability for Retention of Commission: If an officer is found unsuitable within six months of the grant of commission, her commission may be terminated at any time before the contractual period of service of five years.

Liability for Service: Lady officers granted commission will be liable for service in any part of the world on selected appointment as decided by Army Headquarters from time to time.

Promotion:
Lady officers will be eligible for promotion as per rules in vogue.
Tenure of Engagement: All lady officers granted WSES (0) commission would serve the Indian Army for a period of five years from the date of conferment of commission subject to fulfilment of other conditions. This period of five years may further be extended upto five years subject to their perfom1ance and having given option for the same.

Reserve Liability:
Women officers on release before or after expiry of contractual length of service will carry a reserve liability to serve the Army for five years plus two years on voluntary basis or upto the age of 37 years whichever is earlier. The final allotment of Arms/Service/Corps at the time of passing out will be the sole discretion of Army HQ in keeping with existing policy. No representations are tenable on this account.
