National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT)

Basic Information regarding Exam
The National Institute of Fashion Technology, a specialised college of design, management and technology provides training research, leadership and other basic inputs to the fashion Industry. The prime objective of the institute is to assist the fashion Industry in India in meeting the challenges of industrial competitiveness on a global plane.

Minimum Educational Qualification
10 + 2 from a recognised Board of Education with minimum 50% marks in aggregate. Group B, D, E and F: Graduation from a recognised university with minimum 50% marks in aggregate OR Diploma in FD/ AD from NIFf only. Group C: PO Diploma or Diploma in any of the Design Programmes of NIFr/NID OR Bachelor’s Degree in Home Science (Clothing & Textiles) with minimum 50% marks in aggreate OR BFA from a recognised university with minimum 50% marks in aggregate.

Note: In all cases 45% marks for SC/ST.

Note: One can also apply to courses to which one is eligible if one has appeared for 10 + 2/Graduation in the year of admission. However, the admission to NIFT will be provisional and subject to one’s qualifying the 10 + 2/Graduation as the case may be.

Details Regarding Selection Procedure

Interivews Test/ Personality Test
The Entrance Examination consists of: For Group ‘A’ and ‘B’: General Ability Test and Creative Ability Test. For Group ‘C’: Presentation of Design Ideology followed by intensive Interview. Group ‘D’ and ‘E’: General Ability Test and Managerial Ability Test. Group ‘F’: General Ability Test and Creative Communication Test.

The Written Test is held in all the branches in forthcoming February. Interviews in April and followed by results in May; and the session begins in July every year. One can only choose one of the six groups. Medium of instruction at NIFT is English.

Reservation of Seats
SC 15%, ST 7.5%, PH 3%, General 74.5%.

How to Apply
Application forms can be obtained during the month of December from the NIFT either in person on payment of Rs. 200/- or by post against a Demand Draft for Rs. 300/- for each programme payable to the Registrar (Academic Administration). National Institute of Fashion Technology and a self-addressed envelope of A4 size with Rs. 20/- stamp affixed. Mark your envelope FD/AD/ KDT/LADT/TDDIFD-AP/GMT/AM3/FC, according to the course applied for. However, separate forms are to be submitted for each course applied for. IV. Group ‘D’ Post-Graduate Technology Management Programme (Two years)
I. Garment Manufacturing Technology (GMT) at New Delhi, Mumbai, Calcutta, Chennai, Hyderabad, Gandhinagar (30 seats each).
