Graduate Level Combined Examination-Main Examination (Group-B)

Basic Information regarding Exam
The Staff Selection Commission shall hold a Combined Main Examination for candidates who have been declared qualified in the Preliminary Examination. The nationality, age, qualifications, physical/medical standards are same as mentioned in Preliminary Examination details.

Examination Fee
Rs 60/- (Rupees Sixty Only). No fee for SC/ST/Ex-S/PH.

Plan of Examination

General Note about Examination Scheme
Scheme and the Subjects for the main examination: (Conventional Type) for Recruitment to the Posts of Divisional Acctts/ Auditors/UDCs.
The Main Examination will consist of the following two papers :

1 Paper I (Part a)
Subjects – General English
Marks – 50

2 Paper (Part b)
Subjects – General Studies (Option to answer in Hindi or English)
Duration – 2 Hours including Paper 1 (Part a)
Marks – 50

3 Paper II
Subjects – Arithmetic (Option to answer in Hindi or in English)
Duration – 2 Hours
Marks – 100

Optional Subjects and Syllabus PAPER I PART (A) GENERAL ENGLISH: In addition to testing of the candidate’s understanding of the English Language and its correct usage, his writing ability would also be tested. Questions on paragraph writing/report writing, etc., may be included.

PART (B) GENERAL STUDIES: Questions in this paper will cover General Awareness as well as General Intelligence and Reasoning Ability.

(A) GENERAL INTELLIGENCE: It would include questions of both verbal and non-verbal type. This component would include questions on analogies, similarities and differences, spatial visualisation, spatial orientation, problem solving, analysis, judgement, decision making, visual memory, discrimination observation, relationship concepts, arithmetical reasoning, verbal and figural classification, arithmetic number series, non-verbal series, coding and decoding, statement-conclusion, syllogistic reasoning, etc.

(b) General Awareness: Questions In This Component Will Be Aimed At Testing The Candidate’s General Awareness Of The Environment Around Him And Its Application To Society. Questions Will Also Be Designed To Test Knowledge Of Current Events And Of Such Matters Of Everyday Observations And Experience In Their Scientific Aspect As May Be Expected Of Any Educated Person. The Test Will Also Include Questions Relating To India And Its Neighbouring Countries Especially Pertaining To History, Culture, Geography, Economic Scene, General Polity, Scientific Research, Etc. These Questions Will Be Such That They Do Not Require A ,special Study Of Any Discipline.

PAPER II ARITHMETIC: This paper will include questions on problems relating to number systems, computation of whole numbers, decimals and fractions and relationships between numbers, fundamental arithmetical operations, percentages, ratio and proportion, averages, interest, profit and loss, discount, use of tables and graphs, mensuration, time and distance, ratio and time, etc.

Other Information Regarding Plan of Examination:
1. The Question Papers for the Main Examination will be of Conventional Type.

2. Candidates will have the option to Answer Paper I Part (b), and Paper II, either in Hindi or in English. Medium opted in the Preliminary Examination (Hindi or English) will remain the same in the Main Examination.

3. The Commission will have full discretion to fix separate qualifying marks in each of the papers and in the aggregate of all the papers separately for each Category of candidates (viz. UR/SC/ST/OBC/PH/Ex-S). Only those candidates who qualify in all the papers as well as in the aggregate would be eligible to be considered for Selection.

I. Candidates must write the papers in their own hand. In no circumstances will
they be allowed the help of a scribe to write the answers or them.

II. In the question papers, wherever necessary, questions involving numeral, the
Metric system of weights and measures only will be set.

III. Candidates are not pennitted to use calculators in the Main Examination. They should not therefore, bring the same inside the Examination Hall.

IV. Marks will not be allotted for mere superficial knowledge.

V. Credit will be given for orderly, effective and exact expression combined with due economy of words in subjects of the Examination.

FOR ASSISTANT GRADE: Candidates will be required to pass a test in typewriting at a minimum speed of 30 words per minute in English or 25 words per minute in Hindi within a period of two years from the date of appointment to the Assistant Grade. In the event of their failure to pass the test within the prescribed period, they shall not be entitled to draw any further increments in the Assistant’s Grade until they pass such test or are exempted from this requirement under a special or general order; and on passing or being exempted from the test, their pay shall be refixed, i.e., if their increments had not been withheld but no arrears of pay shall be allowed for the period for which the increments had been withheld.

JOB REQUIREMENTS OF CYPHER ASSISTANT: Cypher duties for which proficiency in Typewriting Test and Cypher is essential, training for Cypher Proficiency Test would he imparted by the Ministry of External Affairs after selection of the candidates. Profession of English Typewriting skill at a speed of 30 words per minute is mandatory for Cypher Assistant. Therefore, the candidates to be appointed to the post of Cypher Assistant in the Ministry of External Affairs would be required to pass the English Typewriting Test at a speed of 30 words per minute within the period of probation, failing which they would be liable to be discharged from service.

Details Regarding Selection Procedure

Terms and Conditions
After the Exam and the Interview wherever applicable, the Commission will draw up All India merit list on the basis of the aggregate marks finally awarded to each candidate and in that order so many candidates as are found by the Commission to be qualified shall be recommended for appointment upto the number of unreserved vacancies available.

The Commission will recommend the candidates in the merit list on the basis of the aggregate marks and option given by the candidates in the Application Form depending on the number of vacancies available. Once the candidate has been given first available preference, he will not be considered for the other options. However, Commission reserves the right to nominate the candidate to any post based on his merit position.

Candidates appointed to posts in Categories of Auditors in the Offices of Accountant General (Audit) in various States and other Audit and Account Offices under the C&AG and in the Categories of.Jr. Accountants in the various departmentalised Account Offices in Central Ministries/Departments would be required to pass a departmental confinnatory examination within a prescribed period/number of chances failing which. they would be liable to be discharged from service.

Persons appointed as Divisional Accountants (Probationer) would have to pass the departmental examination. called Divisional Accountant Grade Examination within a period of 2 years. Services of persons who fail to pass this examination within the stipulated period of 2 years are liable to be terminated.

How to Apply
The notification for Main Examination is published in Employment News/Rozgar Sangrah in the month of November. The candidates may utilise in original the form published in Employment News. or use printed Application Form if available from private agencies. as long as the format of Application Form is exactly the same as published in the advertisement.

Other Information
NOTE: Candidates are required to submit along with their application certificates in support of their claims regarding age. educational qualifications. SC/ST/OBC and disability. etc.. for verification. The candidates applying for the examination should ensure that they fulfil all the eligibility conditions for admission to the examination. Their admission at all the stages of examination for which they are admitted by the Commission viz. Preliminary Examination. Main (Written) Examination and Interview Test. will be purely provisional. subject to their satisfying the prescribed eligibility conditions. If on verification at any time before or after the Main (Written) Examination and Interview Test. it is found that they do not fulfil any of the eligibility conditions. their candidature for the Examination will be cancelled by the Commission.

SELECTION OF CENTRE FOR MAIN EXAMINATION: Same as the candidate had applied for the Preliminary Examination.
